Every year women observe a fast of Jiutiya for the long life of the child. It is an important festival celebrated all over Bihar and Jharkhand as well as in the districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This time the Hindu calendar is not unanimous regarding the timing of the fast. Jyotishacharya Pandit Rakesh Jha told by quoting the almanacs that this time Jiutiya fast is of two days. According to the Banarasi Panchang, devotees will observe Jiutiya fast on Wednesday, 29 September and will perform Parana in the morning on Thursday 30 September. At the same time, Nahay-Khay will take place on 28 September. Whereas according to the Mithila Panchang, the fast will be observed on Tuesday, September 28 and will break the fast at 5.04 pm on the 29th.
संतान की लंबी आयु के लिए प्रति वर्ष महिलाएं जिउतिया का व्रत रखती हैं। यह पूरे बिहार और झारखंड के साथ ही के साथ ही पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश के जिलों में मनाया जाने वाला एक महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार है। इस बार व्रत की टाइमिंग को लेकर हिंदू पंचांग एकमत नहीं है। ज्योतिषाचार्य पंडित राकेश झा ने पंचांगों के हवाले से बताया कि इस बार जिउतिया व्रत दो दिनों का है। बनारसी पंचांग के अनुसार श्रद्धालु 29 सितंबर दिन बुधवार को जिउतिया व्रत करेंगी और गुरुवार 30 सितंबर को सुबह पारण करेंगी। वहीं, नहाय-खाय 28 सितंबर को होगा। जबकि मिथिला पंचांग के अनुसार, व्रती 28 सितंबर दिन मंगलवार को व्रत रखेंगी और 29 की शाम 5.04 बजे व्रत का पारण करेंगी।
